Metro and Anna (Matola) Zuback came to America somewhere around 1903 from Austria Hungary. They brought along their two small sons, Frank and George, and settled in a small hamlet called Banning, PA. Metro was a coal miner and one day, on the feast of St. Nicholas, he stayed home to attend church services. On that day, December 19th, 1907, there was an explosion in the Darr Mine that killed all the miners that day. Had Grandfather Metro gone to work that day, most of the children pictured in the photo would never have been born.
